On March 26th and 27th, the enchanting world of Dr. Seuss came alive on the UISG stage as students from grades 1 to 6 delivered a spectacular performance of Seussical Junior. The production marked the culmination of an extraordinary creative journey that began last September—one that showcased not just stellar performances, but the remarkable teamwork and dedication of four essential production teams working towards a common goal.

PART 1
A Journey of Creativity and Collaboration
Since September, our Seussical cast and crew have participated in weekly afterschool extracurricular activities, each focused on a different aspect of theatrical production.

Start with Afterschool ECA Activities
What began as individual passion projects evolved into a coordinated effort that brought Dr. Seuss’s whimsical world to vibrant life. When the magical worlds of The Jungle of Nool and Whoville collided on stage, audiences—including UISG students, teachers, parents, and members of our local community—were captivated by the colorful and energetic scenes unfolding before them.

PART 2
The Four Teams Behind the Magic
Performance Team: The heart of any theatrical production lies in its performers. Our young actors, from the caring and imaginative Horton to the determined Gertrude McFuzz, brought Stephen Flaherty’s music and Lynn Ahrens’ lyrics to life with infectious energy and genuine emotion. Through weekly rehearsals and coaching, these students mastered not only their lines and songs but also the art of connecting with their audience.

Set and Prop Design Team: Behind every memorable scene stands the meticulous work of our design team. These students brainstormed, sketched, and constructed the physical elements that transformed our stage into the vibrant worlds of Horton Hears a Who. From the towering trees of the Jungle of Nool to the intricate details of Whoville, this team’s creativity provided the visual foundation for every scene.

Costumes, Hair, and Makeup Team: Bringing characters to life required more than just performance—it required visual transformation. Our costume and makeup artists designed and created costumes, styled hair, and applied makeup that transported audiences into Dr. Seuss’s fantastical universe. Each character, from the smallest Who to the majestic Horton, was a testament to their artistic vision and technical skill.

Photography, Video Editing, Sound, and Lighting Team: The technical backbone of the production, this team ensured every moment was captured, amplified, and illuminated. From lighting that set the mood for each scene to sound design that brought music and dialogue to life, and the photography and video editing that will preserve these memories forever, their work was invisible yet absolutely essential.

Skills That Extend Beyond the Stage
Working on Seussical Junior provided our students with invaluable learning experiences rooted in the IB Learner Profile and ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills. Students developed as communicators through collaboration, thinkers through creative problem-solving, and risk-takers by stepping outside their comfort zones. They honed their self-management skills by meeting deadlines and social skills by working as part of a team toward a common goal.

Seussical Junior
This production exemplified the power of friendship, loyalty, family, and community—themes at the heart of Horton Hears a Who. As Horton’s determination to protect the Whos teaches us, one person (or in this case, one student) truly can make a difference. Together, our four teams proved that when students collaborate with passion and purpose, the results are nothing short of magical.

Congratulations and thank you to all students, teachers, logistics staff and families who made Seussical Junior an unforgettable experience for all!

A Journey of Creativity and Collaboration

The Four Teams Behind the Magic

PART 3
Skills That Extend Beyond the Stage
