DP Visual Arts Exhibition
What happens when four young artistic minds converge?
This year, four DP2 Visual Arts students from UISZ invite you on an exploratory journey into “complexity.” From intimate internal struggles to the delicate bloom of cultural flowers; from the vast dialogue between light and darkness in the cosmos to the ineffable subtleties of human connection—Common Complexities is more than an exhibition. It is a visual narrative woven from two years of artistic inquiry.
Here, complexity is not chaos but the texture of life; not burden but nourishment for art.

01. Flora Nexus Artist: Karina To
Using national flowers as visual vessels, Karina unfolds a profound dialogue between nature, culture, and human identity. From the delicate transience of Japanese cherry blossoms to the elegance of Laotian plumeria, the passion of French lilies, the purity of Danish daisies, and the serenity of Bangladeshi water lilies—each bloom embodies a nation’s spiritual emblem. Every petal tells how humanity coexists with nature and seeks self-recognition through plants.
Through diverse media and techniques, Karina invites viewers to look beyond surface beauty and perceive the quiet, enduring bonds between humans, nature, and one another.

02. Seeing the Unseen Artist: Anna Jung

Emotions are invisible—yet Anna chooses to make them seen.
In this series, she transforms hidden, suppressed, and ineffable psychological states into visible artistic language. Through experimental materials and diverse approaches, Anna externalizes the contradictory, layered nature of human feeling—tension, vulnerability, multiplicity—unfolding layer by layer across the canvas.
Seeing the Unseen is an invitation: pause, gaze upon the internal landscapes we usually neglect, and build a bridge between external perception and internal experience.

03. The Space Between Us Artist: Ann Lin

Emotions in intimate relationships are often intangible. Ann captures these subtle moments in acrylic—not idealized romance, but the authentic joy, sorrow, hesitation, and anticipation of daily life.
From delicate to heavy brushwork, from realistic detail to emotional color rendering, Ann’s paintings offer no complete narrative. They are mirrors. She hopes every viewer catches glimpses of their own delight, pain, struggle, and hope within these quiet, universal scenes.

04. Striking Contrast Between Light and Darkness Artist: Sammi Liao

Where there is light, there must also be darkness. Sammi constructs a visual universe of duality through stark black-white-gray contrasts.
Night skies and white stars, black waves and white crests, nebulae and auroras, night flowers and shadows—natural imagery becomes philosophical metaphor. Wool, shells, sand, and acrylic extend contrast from color into texture: the heaviness of dark against the lightness of light, rough against soft, forming a cohesive whole.
Sammi invites us to consider: light and darkness are never opposites but mutual achievements, just as life’s seemingly contradictory aspects ultimately resolve into completeness.

Art is not the answer but the question. In complexity, we see the richness of life.

Karina To

Anna Jung

“Seeing the Unseen”

Ann Lin

Sammi Liao
