Sharing the Planet : K-Students Explore a Real Vet Clinic

This week in the K Classroom, our inquiry into “Sharing the Planet” came to life with an exciting visit to a real veterinary clinic! Building on our role-play vet clinic and learning about animals, the children had the wonderful opportunity to meet a vet who explained how to care for pets. He demonstrated the fascinating machines he uses, including X-ray and blood test equipment, and we even got to work with two dog patients! The children listened to her heartbeat with a stethoscope and felt how heavy the protective X-ray jacket was — a hands-on experience that showed just how much love and special knowledge it takes to care for the animals we share our planet with. We are so proud of our curious and compassionate K-Students!

Savoring the Senses : K2 Hands-On Fun with Mom

The K2 pupils had an exciting and enriching week! As we near the end of our unit on the five senses, we were thrilled to welcome moms for Parts 3 and 4 of our “Meals with Moms” series.
Part 3: Crepe Making Delight
Children enjoyed mixing the ingredients and adding their favorite toppings to create their own delicious crepes.
Part 4: Sushi Rolling Fun
Led by the Japanese moms, our little chefs rocked and rolled their own sushi.

We appreciate the moms who willingly participated, some bringing special ingredients and utensils, and all showing care and patience. Active parent involvement and healthy Parent-Teacher partnership are key to students’ success on their learning journey.

Japanese Celebration: Setsubun

What a wonderful afternoon we had celebrating Setsubun with our K3 class! Thank you to all the K3 Japanese parents and volunteers who made this event unforgettable!
Our celebration featured engaging, hands-on experiences for our K3 students. At our craft station, the children designed their own decorative face masks and created personalized bean bags, showcasing incredible creativity. K3 students enthusiastically took part in the traditional bean-throwing ceremony, laughing and cheering as they chased away negativity and welcomed prosperity into their lives.

Children enjoyed roasted soybeans—one for each year of their age—a cherished Setsubun tradition that delighted young and old alike. Our sushi-making workshop proved to be another highlight, as our volunteers taught authentic rolling techniques and the children crafted their own delicious sushi rolls to enjoy and take home.

This celebration beautifully connected our school community with Japanese culture while creating joyful memories together. Special thanks to our Japanese parent volunteers for sharing their traditions and bringing this meaningful festival to life!”

Maps in Action: G1’s Zoo Adventure

In Grade 1, we embarked on an exciting adventure to the Guangzhou Zoo as part of our “Where we are in Place and Time” unit! Our journey focused on understanding how maps help us navigate and explore. Before our visit, we learned how to locate the different animals we were eager to see. At the zoo, we used our maps to find these amazing creatures, deepening our connection to the real-world experience. This fun experience helped us understand the importance of maps and enriched our learning about the world around us!

Explore and Grow: G2 “Night of Wonder”

On Thursday morning, we went on a field trip to Sports Monster as a conclusion to our unit of inquiry “UPTAについて” all about making healthy choices. In the afternoon, students had a variety of activities to participate in, such as making pizza for dinner. In the evening, students watched a movie together before sleeping under mosquito nets in the library. The next morning, students woke up and had breakfast at school. We then invited Grade 1 to join us, and they chose from a selection of fun activities to complete throughout the day.

Primary Adventures Underway! 🌿⛰️

This week, our Primary students are out exploring, learning, and growing, not in their classrooms, but in the great outdoors! From the scenic trails of Xiangwo to the lush landscapes of Yingde and the rugged beauty of Pak Lap, our young adventurers are fully immersed in their long-awaited Primary Week Without Walls.

Camp life builds resilience, sparks curiosity, and deepens friendships. It teaches our students to problem-solve, collaborate, and discover strengths they didn’t know they had. These are the moments where confidence takes root and memories are made for life.

We couldn’t be more excited for them—and we can’t wait to welcome them back with tired legs, dirty shoes, and the biggest grins. The stories they’ll bring home? Those will be the ones they’ll tell for years to come.
Here’s to our brave explorers. Safe travels, happy trails, and see you soon! 🌟

Only at Utahloy: UC Instructor Brings Cutting-Edge Expertise and
Hands-On Learning to Secondary Students

This past Tuesday, Utahloy International School welcomed Eric Witte, a leading researcher from UC Santa Cruz, whose groundbreaking work in evolutionary biology and genomic research rarely intersects with high school education. Eric’s journey from his Berkeley bachelor’s degree to his PhD at Santa Cruz exemplifies the power of sustained curiosity and commitment to understanding life’s complexity.

His visit was a remarkable opportunity for our students to learn directly from someone at the forefront of innovation. Joining our students were Dr. Mullen, Dr. Roy, Dr. Priyanka Pal, Ms. Julie Mullen, and Ms. Cindy Li, along with students from Sun Yat-sen University, creating a dynamic learning community that bridged high school, university, and cutting-edge research.

Girls’ Football Team
Kicks Off the Season in Style

The High School Girls’ Football Team kicked off their season in style this week with a trip to Shenzhen for their first matches in the PRC Red Division. The team showed great spirit and determination across three exciting games.
In a tight opening match, the girls narrowly lost 3–2 to SWIS after a hard-fought battle. They bounced back in the second game, drawing 1–1 with CIS before holding their nerve to win in a dramatic penalty shootout. The team then finished the tournament on a high, beating SIS 4–1 in an impressive performance, with captain Raph leading the way by scoring a fantastic hat-trick.
Tournament goalscorers were Raph (4), Miya (1), Kris (1), and Anna (1).
The action does not stop there. The team will face AISG in two more matches this week, on Tuesday and Thursday, before travelling to Macau on Saturday to compete in the PRC Championship. Good luck to the team as they continue their season.

#K2 Sushi-making
