Grade 8 Hike

On Wednesday, 11th March, for the 2nd year running, the Grade 8 class went on a hike in the Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area. They were in the park for 4 hours, walking a total of 8km. This included hiking up and down hills, a break in Plum Blossom Valley, a stroll along the Huangpodong Reservoir walkway and an opportunity to witness the wonderful nature in the area.

It was a fantastic morning that allowed the students to experience an outdoor activity in a local area, enhance their learning, create environmental awareness and promote well-being and good mental health. This year, there was an added advantage to collect content for their upcoming advertisement videos they will create in the PHE and Design – Inter-Disciplinary Unit.

“It was a wonderful experience hiking the Baiyun Mountain. We were challenged by pushing ourselves up the mountain and we covered an amazing 8km!” – (Yau Yau and Ariel)

“I felt a great accomplishment completing the hike. I really enjoyed walking in mixed groups because I got to talk to people that I don’t normally interact with.” – (Xoraya)

“Our group helped each other go over the mountain by singing the A-B-C-D song. It was fun and a great experience interacting with others. The views of nature were beautiful, and we were surprised to see how green the park was.” – (Danie)

“The weather was perfect for hiking, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. It was mentally relaxing because it was peaceful, away from the noise of the city. The scenery was amazing to look at and it was great to collect content for our IDU videos” – (Sam’s club – Sam T and Sam W)

“There was a delicate silence at times and all you could hear were the birds.” – (Roy)

Some deep and insightful observations from our Grade 8 students who thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thank you to the school for allowing us the opportunity, the PHE department for organizing the event, and to China New Horizons for providing qualified guides to support our students – it truly was a memorable morning out.
