I am delighted to share reflections from a recent visit to St John’s College, Cambridge, where I was joined by Matthius Dorzapff and Dean Hoffman to explore ways to elevate Utahloy International School Guangzhou (UISG) as a global leader in education. The rich exchange of ideas, particularly Matthius’s insightful advice, has inspired a clear vision to strengthen our academic programs, foster school spirit, and deepen our cultural engagement through initiatives like the Edinburgh Festival 2026.
Cheers to a successful Spirit Week! It was wonderful to see the students come together, enjoy the daily themes, and spread cheer throughout the week. From Mismatched Clothes on Monday to House Color Friday, the students wore their spirit proudly and showed they are truly UISG Wolf Proud.
Creativity and self-expression come alive through the unique marks and textures found in fiber art. This year, our Primary and Early Years students celebrated International Dot Day by connecting their individual marks using the traditional technique of weaving.
First and foremost, we have been closely monitoring the weather and upcoming typhoon alerts. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the best experience possible for our students, the secondary camps for Grades 6–10 have been postponed. We will communicate new dates as soon as they are confirmed. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility as we prioritize the safety of our community.
Last week, DP Visual Art students took an inspiring trip to the Shenzhen Sea World Arts and Culture Center to see the original works of Frida Kahlo. Visiting this exhibition gave the students an opportunity to connect their highly theoretical coursework with the life and work of a real artist. Students viewed Frida’s personal possessions and clothes, read her diaries and letters, and felt the connection between personal experience and artmaking. Students learned about Frida’s cultural and historical context by viewing archaeological artifacts from Mexico. They also gained important insights about what goes into curating an exhibition.
The results of the 9th “Ode to Hope” National Youth Painting and Calligraphy Competition are in, and Utahloy International School Guangzhou (UISG) is proud to celebrate another year of extraordinary student achievements. Fourteen talented young artists from both Primary and Secondary divisions earned top honors in this prestigious national event, showcasing their creativity, technical skill, and unique voices.
We have a busy week ahead filled with opportunities to celebrate our students and engage as a community. Next week kicks off Monday with our annual Spirit Week, a fantastic tradition that always brings so much energy and creativity to our campus.
